Functionality

Lever mechanism is used because the force required to lift the snow load can be reduced significantly, depending on the ratio of the shovel length to the ratio of handle bar length. For our prototype, the designed ratio is 3.5 to 5, which means the shovel bar length will be shorter than the length of handle bar. This will allow the force of the snow load can be reduced to the 3.5/5 ratio.

Lever Mechanism

The existing snow shovel is lacking one of the fundamental features in shoveling show, which is the rotatability. The rotatable feature will allows the users to unload the snow load from the shovel either to the left or right side. This features allow the prototype to mimic the behavior of a normal shovel.

Adjustable Height

During the initial designing of the snow shovel, we realized that the lacking of adjust-ability especially to the height of the shovel could be a problem. One, fixed height will not be able to cater to all users. In the end, we added a hole to the middle fitting of the frame so the placement of the rod can be adjusted. By using screws and L-key, the desired position can screwed and tightened.

3-wheel Design

The 3-wheel design allows the shovel to move freely on an even surface such as pavement and road. The rotatable front wheel will allow the user to freely steer the shovel while the two rear wheels will provide enough support so the shovel can stand on its own.
